Let’s Start With the Basics: What’s Love Got to do With It?

If you love, you are God.

I really want to leave it at that. It is the truest foundation of all that I believe. Anything else I say is just smoke and mirrors to convince you of my eloquence and, therefore, my brilliance and value. But, honestly, I am just as ignorant as to what Love is as I have ever been.

I have learned much about what love is not. Love is not a warm, fuzzy feeling. Love is not based in fear, but in facing fear. Love is not possessive. Love is not binding, though it is connective. Love is not exclusive.

The closest I will come to defining love is to say this: to love another is to see and acknowledge the Image of God in that human being.

“Love one another.” “Love God your God with all you heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.” “Love your neighbor as yourself.” “But, love your enemies; do good to them.” “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” “Blessed are the peacemakers.”

Much peace to you.
